Is It Just a Small Flame?

I want to begin with fire
a force that burns deep within me.

the force that burns deep within me
keeps growing with might, but also just stays there

it will stay there most of the time and grow
but my friends and family are water.

my friends and family are water, soothing and still
but can water take down such a huge fire?

yes they can, and they do it all the time
they calm me down and let me feel warm

they let me feel warm
the best way at home in my comfortable surroundings.

in my bed, hugging my soft pillow
but yet, this fire will appear again.

The Missing Piece

I want to begin with soccer
The light that constantly seeks out

The light that constantly seeks out
lost,

lost,
What happens when the light isn’t there?

What happens when there is no light?
how do you find the light?

You have to become the light
like the Moon at night

forever lasting,
never ending,

How do you find the light?
become it’s bright

But in the End I Don’t Feel

I want to begin with dreams
The morbid, gruesome reality

The morbid, gruesome reality
The lovely, calming reality

The lovely, calming reality
The bloodied bodies laying still

The bloodied bodies laying still
Bloody? Gruesome? Morbid?

Bloody? Gruesome? Morbid?
Down in the deepest depths of hell

Down in the deepest depths of hell
Torture. Pain. Pain?

Torture. Pain? Pain.
But I don’t Feel it, was it a dream?

Untitled

I want to begin with dance
I don’t want to twist and turn

I don’t want to twist and turn
I want to leap and jump

I want to leap and jump
Until I fall and break a bone

Until I fall and break a bone

Why can’t I dance in peace?

"Where I'm From"

Student poems and self-potraits reflecting on the questions, “What does home mean to us?” “What physical objects, smells, tastes, sounds, or images remind us of home?” “How can we celebrate our memories by expressing them through writing and art?”
