This April, CWP’s Teaching Artist Training & Internship Program (TATIP) Cohort collaborated to put on two panels for Teaching Artists: The Business of Teaching Artistry: A Panel on Professionalism and The 2016 Job Information Panel.
The TATIP Cohort is a cross-organizational Teaching Artist professional development collaboration. The TATIP Cohort collaborates on a series of professional development seminars and workshops as a part of CWP’s TATIP. These seminars and workshops are available to Teaching Artists currently working at a Cohort member organization as well as the TATIP trainees.
The TATIP Cohort is dedicated to expanding and enhancing the Teaching Artist field by providing quality and effective professional development seminars and workshops. The Cohort believes that by working together, we can provide our Teaching Artists with a comprehensive and diverse range of skills to better serve the arts in education field.
On April 11th, the Cohort collaborated on The Business of Teaching Artistry: A Panel on Professionalism, moderated by CWP Program Director of Training & Internships Patti Chilsen and TATIP Facilitator Renée Watson. The panel took place at Roy Arias Theatre in midtown and participating panelists included administrators from:

There was also a smaller panel of Mentor Teaching Artists from both CWP & Wingspan Arts: Melissa Shaw, Jashua Sa-Ra, Kate Lee, Javan Howard, T. Scott Lilly & Felipe Galindo.
Each panel discussed important information about professionalism in the Teaching Artist field including; expectations among various organizations, email hygiene, professional attire, burn out prevention, self-care, self-promotion and more. Over 70 Teaching Artists attended and participated in the activities. It was a truly successful collaborative effort on the part of the Cohort, but they weren’t done yet!
On April 24th, the Cohort came together again to throw the 16th Annual Job Information Panel in partnership with NYU Steinhardt and the Forum on Educational Theatre, moderated once again by CWP Program Director Patti Chilsen.

Several organizations hosted tables for one-on-one conversations with Teaching Artists after the panel, including: Teachers & Writers Collaborative, Mima Music, National Dance Institute, Mark DeGarmo Dance, ArtsConnection and Lincoln Center Education.
Over 100 Teaching Artists attended the event and learned about several hiring practices and expectations. The panelists discussed in detail what organizations often look at when hiring, how many they hire, pay rates, etc. After the panel, the attendees swarmed the table hosts and took away information regarding job applications.
