Linda Kleinbub, Writer
Linda Kleinbub is a writer and a mentor at Girls Write Now, an organization that works with at-risk high school girls who have a passion for writing. Her work has appeared in The New York Observer, Yahoo! Beauty, Our Town – Downtown, Statement of Record, Short, Fast and Deadly, The Best American Poetry Blog, and Grabbing the Apple: An Anthology of New York Woman Poets. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from The New School. She holds Masters in Library and Information Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, both from Queens College (CUNY). She is also a painter, photographer and organic gardener.
TATIP Work
“This year at TATIP, I interned from December 2015 to May 2016 at The Young Woman’s Leadership School of Queens. This was a ninth grade all girl writing class that met on Wednesday’s with CWP Teaching Artist Katie Rainey.”
“I also interned for Free Arts NYC at P.S. 7 in East Harlem. This was a visual arts program in an after school environment with fifth grade boys and girls. It was a 13 week program that ran from February to May 2016. Mary Sweeney was the Teaching Artist.”
Most Memorable TATIP Moment
“My most memorable moment at TATIP was during the summer session. We had a “Black Lives Matter” workshop in which we wrote poems inspired by the many black lives innocently gunned down by police officers. We were put into groups and each person chose a line from their poem which we then combined to create a group poem. We were told that we were going to Union Square Park to perform our poem for the public. There were two writers and two actors in our group. The actors were very excited, but the other writer and I were terrified. It was a sunny afternoon and the park was filled with people. At first I was extremely nervous, but we performed our poem over and over walking through the grounds and as time went on it became fun. It turned out to be a very liberating experience.”
