Devon Johnson originally hails from Dallas, Texas where she grew up acting and singing. She attended the University of Colorado for her undergraduate degree in Theatre where she first discovered the world of teaching artistry by working for the education department of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. From there, she moved to London, England and obtained her MA in Applied Theatre (Drama in the Community and Drama Education) from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In London, Devon continued to hone her craft as an Applied Theatre Practitioner working for many arts organizations across the city. A born nomad, Devon moved to New York City in 2019 and joined the TAP program. She has recently taken her skills back to Colorado to continue her teaching artistry.
TAP Work:
While in the TAP program, Devon worked full time for the Manhattan School of Music. Though she was unable to take on any CWP internships, she continued to learn and train her facilitation skills from her participation in the TAP program. During the program, she was also an original member of the founding Teaching Artist team of the American Skin project through the Dwyer Cultural Center. This project was halted due to COVID-19. Devon has recently moved back to Colorado to work as a teaching artist for the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.
Most Memorable TAP Moment:
“I knew that this TAP cohort was special from day one. However, I didn’t realize how much so until COVID-19 hit. Switching over to Zoom salons and sessions was seamless and each time I logged on it felt like being back in the space with my friends and TAP family. Everyone of the TAP members is truly so warm, caring, and kind. I realize no matter what’s going on in the world, we have a safe space to create and share and celebrate with each other.”
