At PS 84, the students and teaching artists, Felipe Galindo and Phyllis Capello, are preparing to start their murals. The text in the murals, or mural lines, align with PS 84’s use of The Seven Habits, The Leader in Me. The seven habits the students are learning to use this year are:

1: Be proactive
2: Begin with the end in mind
3: Put first things first
4: Think win-win
5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood
6: Synergize
7: Sharpen the saw

Students have been incorporating these principals into their everyday lessons as well as into the CWP lessons.

In this class, students volunteered to read their work in the front of the room. Adrian, a student in Ms. Koza’s and Ms. Stephen’s class wrote: “Focus is a leopard hunting. Work is a lion protecting the cubs.” Ms. Koza was very pleased to hear Adrian share her work. She took a photo and texted it to Adrian’s grandmother, who works in the preschool at PS 84, as she wanted it to be a contact of celebration that day!

“Please ask Grandma to take a selfie”, Phyllis asked Ms. Koza. She happily complied!

The teaching artists are very proud of all the hard work the students have done so far this year and their bravery in sharing their work in front of their peers. They are also proud of the joy the students’ work is bringing to their families.
