The first grade students in the PS 316 CWP residency are learning how to be Peaceful Warriors. In their explorations, they have been discussing love as the most important weapon of a Peaceful Warrior and the forms that this love takes (Kindness, Patience, Generosity, Forgiveness, etc).
Each form of love has been assigned to an aminal who shares the characteristics of the quality. Students were prompted to draw their own animal that would embody the quality that they most wanted to practice and that would act as their guide. Nahla chose for her animal a cheetah, to help her practice the quality of integrity.
What most impressed the teaching artists, Shawn and Mary, about Nahla’s choice was how specific her choice was and the independence and confidence with which she created her drawing and writing.
