Okai is a Brooklyn-born, world-traveled percussionist, M.C., and producer with Haitian roots. A master of diverse global rhythms, Okai integrates percussion traditions from the African diaspora into contemporary music. He is a co-founder and lead vocalist for Strings N Skins and lead vocalist for the acclaimed Brown Rice Family. His work spans genres from Afrohouse to Hip-Hop, featured on albums like “Tonight We Fly.” As a seasoned teaching artist, Okai has collaborated with institutions including Carnegie Hall, BAM, and the NYC Department of Education, using rhythm as a tool for cultural education and community empowerment. A dedicated conch shell player, he bridges ancient traditions with modern performance, bringing his unique sound to stages like Jacob’s Pillow and The Joyce Theater. Okai continues to serve as a cultural ambassador, dedicated to preserving heritage through music and education.
