Di Jayawickrema is a hybrid writer, educator, migrant justice organizer, and Sri Lankan New Yorker. She writes short prose that approaches poetry and navigates (un/re)making memory, identity, and belonging. She is a Kundiman Fellow as well as a Voices of Our Nation and Tin House alumnus whose writing has been nominated for Best of the Net, longlisted in Wigleaf Top 50, and anthologized in Best Microfiction, among other honors. She served as an Editor for features at The Rumpus and for fiction at The Offing. Her pedagogy is rooted in Paulo Freire’s vision of “education as the practice of freedom.” In tandem with writing and organizing, teaching within an abolitionist framework is how she aims to help build a more just world.
