Stephanie Jones, Creative Writer

Stephanie Jones is a writer, content creator and teaching artist. She loves working with young people having taught devised musical theatre in NYC elementary school classrooms and in creative arts programs. Her musicals have received developmental readings at the Eugene O’Neill National Music Theatre Conference, NAMT Festival of New Musicals and Dixon Place. She was a NYFA fellow in playwriting and screenwriting. With twin sister Suzanne, she has co-written and performed original work as the Jones Twins, with developmental support from Bard College/Voice & Vision Theatre, Smithsonian Institute African American Museum Project, Dixon Place Artists-in-Residence, and Franklin Furnace. Television credits include producing pre-school programming for Nickelodeon. She is currently creating original online and TV children’s programming. She has a BA in Communications from Howard University and an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Music Theatre Writing Program.


Stephanie studied in the TATIP Summer Institute in 2014 and is an advanced trainee in TATIP this school year. She is enjoying her residencies in a 2nd grade class (her favorite age!) at PS/MS 279 in the Bronx with CWP Teaching Artists Scott Lily and Bianca Garcia, and at TYWLS in Queens with CWP Teaching Artist Jennifer Michael Hecht’s 9th grade class of girls.

“Participating in TATIP training this year has opened a big door to my growth as an artist who works with kids. The compassion and humanity of our mentors in the classroom and in our workshops has inspired and humbled me and gave me a deeper understanding and realization of why this work is so necessary in NYC public schools.  Meeting young people who are eager to find ways to channel their own creativity and talent and watching their process,  from the struggle to grasp and begin to their joy in confidently presenting their work has been a blast. Thanks also to my fellow talented TATIP trainees, who I learned from and look forward to working with one day soon. And of course, deep gratitude to the amazing staff at CWP from Michelle, Megan, and Katie, to our profoundly gifted guides and teachers Patti and Renee who showed us what truly great teaching artistry is.”
