Bright Spot – PS 132

Students at PS 132 had a lesson by their TATIP trainee recently. She brought in a print of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night and presented each student with his or her own copy.

The lesson began by exploring what the students saw in the painting. The words generated by this exploration created a community poem which was then brought to life when the students were asked to create the images with their bodies. They were asked, for example, to move like the whirling wind, and then they were asked to create statues or tableaux to reflect the images. The students really enjoyed the lesson, and some of the students who have been shy to participate were excited to share their big and creative statues! We can’t wait to see what happens next!
