Jennifer Jones, Visual Artist
Jennifer Jones was born and raised in New York by parents who thought culture was important. As a child, she found herself spending many hours getting lost in making art, but she never had the confidence to pursue it as a profession. After realizing that artists are not born but cultivated, she decided to attend to her life long calling. She works hard, trying to make up for lost time and she has learned to accept that every once in awhile she makes something good. She explores many different mediums while primarily working in printmaking, ceramics and photography.
This spring she is graduating from Community-Word Project’s Teaching Artist Training & Internship Program, from Nassau Community College with associates’ degrees in art and photography and from Stony Brook University with bachelor’s degrees in art history and studio art. She was awarded a Merit Scholarship that will be applied in her pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Art History at Purchase College this fall. She also loves being a teaching artist, working as a gallery assistant at the Zucciarre Gallery and living with her family by the beach in Far Rockaway.
TATIP Work:
“While at TATIP, I have signed up for as many professional development classes that I can and I am co-teaching an activist art class with Citizen Schools.”
Most Memorable TATIP Moment:
“At the first class, we were asked to share our expectations for the course on “Graffiti Walls.” I really did not know what to expect, but I knew I would have to leave my traditional self at the door, let go of my judgments and open my mind. It is a decision that I am grateful that I did. This has been a life changing experience.”
