Miranda Ingram Agnew is a trumpet player, composer-improviser, and educator originally from Tucson, Arizona. She brings to Community-Word Project a passion for arts education as a space where youth can learn about themselves, histories they are a part of, and issues they care about. As an educator and project organizer she facilitated multiple workshop series for high school students across the country in which they collaboratively developed a guide for educators centering women in the story of Jazz and Creative Music. She is also an experienced trumpet instructor, and has taught within Boston and New York City public schools.
Miranda received a B.A. in Anthropology and M.M. in Jazz Performance through the dual degree program between Harvard College and the New England Conservatory. She is deeply invested in building supportive and bold spaces for music-making and lasting connections to others through creative practice. Miranda is a 2023 Next Jazz Legacy Semi-Finalist, has attended the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, and has performed at venues including Jamboree Barcelona, Scullers Boston, and Dizzy’s Club NYC. Her compositions emphasize collectivity and fluidity, while centering the personalities of her collaborators, and more information about her musical activities can be found through her instagram, @miagnew.trumpet.
