As part of the mid year culmination, students at PS 132 performed their community narratives poems. Students were divided into stanza groups and created tableaux to interpret the action in the poems. They used their “creative licenses” to embody “frozen pictures” that were vivid and interesting.
They also had to use critical thinking skills in order to ensure that their tableaux told the stories while also ensuring that all characters, details and plot points in the poems were represented.
The Teaching Artists were particularly proud of these performances because the students were able to better articulate not only what they had written but also what other classes had written. All of the students fully embodied their roles and were able to further connect to their words emotionally when they acted out what they had written.
