Bright Spot – BAHC II

Students at BAHC continue to use their names and image in a journey of self-discovery. They were led by teaching artists Pamella Allen and Molly Goldman in a free write to get their imaginations running far and wide. Once their imaginative juices were running, they transitioned into a visual arts activity.

Students utilized the surrealist technique of automatism to create a blind contour drawing of their peers. In a blind contour drawing, the artist is charged with creating the image without ever looking at the page. Once this was complete, the students added color. They then selected text from their name narrative or collaborative poem, which were created earlier in the residency, to create a mixed media visual poem on paper.

The teaching artists are very proud and excited by the students’ willingness to experiment artistically and the risks they have taken in their art and writing.
