Artist Perri Salka works with acrylic-based ink, water and heat, to create experimental, methodical and meditational works on Yupo paper in an attempt to clarify inks’ intrinsic properties and purpose as a medium.

Working on Yupo paper – a sleek, non-absorbent surface – Salka is able to capture and preserve ink in its most vulnerable and honest state, as the vibrancy of the ink is never compromised. Her latest body of work, an ongoing series titled, Landing, employs new drying techniques that inject a visceral, scientific element into the final product ; alluding to the idea of nature versus the manufactured / terrestrial versus extraterrestrial.

Born and raised in Oakdale, Long Island, Perri Salka currently lives and paints in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Perri was accepted into the School of Visual Arts in 2005 and received a BFA degree in 2009. She has had the opportunity to be a part of a number of Brooklyn based group exhibitions over the past two years that feature her latest abstract works of acrylic based ink on Yupo paper.
