Sarah Maccabee is originally from San Francisco and has been living in Brooklyn for the past three years. She is a teacher and poet and has been teaching English and Poetry to elementary and middle school aged children for the past three years. She graduated from Oberlin College with a double major in English and Creative Writing. She believes that children have an inherent sense of fairness and criticality ingrained in them. For many of them, these concepts are deeply rooted feelings that do not need to be taught but only drawn out through reading and creative writing. She sees her work as a teacher of creative writing as trying to help children harness their innate ways of seeing to understand historical and contemporary political, social and personal realities.
