Maya Milenovic Workman is a choreographer, director, and a writer. She was born in Slovenia, where she formed her first physical theater company. Looking for new in sound, movement and physical theater brought her to ongoing work with live jazz in the USA. She merged her work with themes of marginalization and special needs.
She co-founded International music and performing arts academies, MADLOM (NJ), related arts at the MCPK (NJ), storytelling through movement and drumming at the Bullock School (NJ), North East School, CWP (NY), and is in a process of building a new International Academy of Performance Arts, Slovenia. Her latest stage works are addressing marginalized, improvised sound, multimedia, film, and robotics: “I Hear with My Eye", “Virtual Truth”, “Guernica Continuum and “Dos Worlds”. With legendary jazz bassist Reggie Workman and his Ensemble she presented: Come and Go, Fragments in Fabula, Closed Door (Sartre), HP Madame (Picasso), Jus Al’ Mae, Mother Courage (Brecht), Earthly Delights (Bosch), Tristan and Isolde (Legend), Synthesis, Abstractions (Bosch, Beckett), Medea (Euripides) and Ogun’s Ardor. Presently they are collaborating on a book for children ages 4-6.
