Dan Paul Roberts, Visual Artist

My name is Dan Paul Roberts. I am an interdiciplinary artist originally from Wichita Falls, Texas. I currently reside in Brooklyn. A few things I have done since moving to New York seven years ago: Written and illustrated three children's books, appeared in a TV series as well as opened for Joan Rivers as my drag persona Candi Shell, and recorded and released a full-length album (The Make Up by Dan Paul) that has been nominated for three 2015 OUTmusic Awards. I am currently a writer and performer in the Lower East Side's late night talkshow The Mary Jo Camel Show as well as a karaoke host Wednesday nights at Tandem Bar in Brooklyn. You can find my illustrations on clothing and more at PrintAllOver.me/collections/danpaul and also at Redbubble.com/people/danpaul

TATIP Work

Dan Paul has been working with CWP Teaching Artists Katie Issel Pitre and Max Allbee at PS 316 in Red Hook.

"The experience has been incredibly valuable, getting the opportunity to help in the classroom as well as observing Katie & Max and the way they work together. There are many challenges in the second grade class my partner, Kim Baglieri, and I are attending, which has made it a perfect testing ground for our TATIP training. Week after next, we will teach our first class, and I'm really excited."

Memorable TATIP Moment

"The group creative/acting challenges that we did in TATIP sessions in the board room above TD Bank were lots of fun. It was definitely the most enjoyable job training I've ever been a part of, and I loved the connections I made, especially knowing that all of my fellow trainees were also artists who are actively creating. One activity in particular that stood out was the community poems we created in small groups then acted out for the class. I was reminded of my love for poetry and experienced unexpected moments of clarity and emotion. Patti, Renee and Katie were incredible facilitators, and I'm so glad that we had the opportunity to meet."
